About

The programme aims to select women from diverse background who have strived through societal barriers to become women technologists, mid-management professionals, social sector workers and students as STEM Femme Fellows. The STEM Femmes will work over 6 months to enable women (participants) from diverse backgrounds to bridge the digital skill gap through targeted digital training, so that they can participate in the workforce and entrepreneurship.

The Fellows (STEM Femmes) will identify and onboard women (participants) from various socio-economic backgrounds who possess basic computer skills, and are willing and able to take up fractional employment or run their own small enterprises, navigating the restraints of various social barriers.

CDF STEM Femmes will facilitate targeted digital training for the participants to enhance their opportunities for economic participation through gig digital microwork* projects, gainful employment, or advancing their own enterprises.

*Digital Microwork (DM): Microwork refers to tasks that are broken down into small, manageable units and made available to any user on a platform, rather than being assigned to a specific individual. Common examples of microwork include data entry, image tagging, content moderation, transcription of short texts, categorising products, testing websites or apps, proofreading short documents, and annotating data for machine learning models. In this system, an employer posts a task on a platform for a worker to complete. Each task typically takes only a few seconds to minutes, and the worker is usually compensated per task.
